I had the pleasure of discovering the Park Slope Food Coop the other day located here in Brooklyn, just a short walk from Jay’s apartment. It is one of the oldest and largest food coops in the nation, boasting over 12,000 members and established in 1973. What a treat to find a haven of organic, local food in the city. After moving out here, Jay
Renee 3.0
I celebrated my 30th birthday this past weekend on the Oregon Coast, surrounded by good friends. It was so much fun! I can’t imagine a better birthday weekend. Jay flew into town mid-week (distracting me from writing a second post last week…) and we drove out a little early to the beach house. My friends joined us there closer to the actual weekend. We stayed
Tomato Sauce = Fail
My eyes are still wet with tears and I can’t believe I am making myself write this post. I had a huge bucket of Roma tomatoes from the Urban Farm I have been planning to can into marinara sauce. I waited a week for them to ripen to the perfect level. You don’t want them overripe, but I wanted them really red. Finally, they were
Oregon Country Fair
I experienced a truly unique, Eugene event this weekend: the Oregon Country Fair. This is an annual event held every year on the outskirts of town. Booths and stages are built into a forested setting and people buy tickets Friday through Sunday, either for the whole weekend or just one day. There are various food vendors, crafts, and interesting bands and entertainment all weekend. I
Scattered 4th
I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend! We made our annual trip back to Oklahoma to visit the in-laws, but it was such a whirlwind this year. I arrived Friday evening for dinner and left Sunday morning after breakfast. While I was there though, I enjoyed some of the natural beauty in Lake Eufaula and wanted to share here. In this part of forested
Dinner with Ruth
A couple weeks ago, I wrote a brief blog post about having dinner with Ruth Reichl, the editor-in-chief for Gourmet magazine. I then went on to get distracted with moving, wrapping up my job, etc. and never wrote my intended post. Here it is my friends! As I mentioned earlier, this opportunity came up through my old job and I have to say it was
Eugene Arrival
We said goodbye to our old house this weekend, as we packed up all of our belongings and moved two hours south to Eugene. My graduate program in landscape architecture starts next Monday and there looks like so much to do between now and then! I have a bed and most of my room unpacked. The kitchen is getting there, but I have about thirty
Last Week of Normalcy
I’m heading off this morning to my last week at work. After five years of working at the same place, and nine years working in this field, it feels a little weird to know this weekend will last for three years. I will be working hard in my graduate program, but I won’t be an office gal for awhile. I spent the weekend weeding, working
My New Home
I truly despise renting, which is part of the reason I have been so stressed about housing the last few weeks leading up to my move to Eugene and return to graduate school. My motivation for buying a house was driven in a large part by my desire to paint the walls whatever color I wanted, grow my garden however I determined, and keep a
