Two Years

Man was lost and saved in a garden.

-Pascal (1623-62)

Two years ago I started this blog, originally under the name MuddyClogs and today as HipChickDigs. This summer will be our third anniversary here. Over that time, I think I have both lost and been saved in the garden. It has been a quiet comfort to me when I’ve seen friends crack under the pressure of life, and it’s been a place of celebration with the others I have become closer with over the last few years. It has given me bruises and cuts, but also fruit and peace.

Here is where I began this journey:

And here is where I stand this morning:

There is a lot to be thankful for in my life today. This summer will mark a time of change on our urban homestead and new adventurers, but what I have planted here will always be growing. Thanks for joining me in this journey!

  1. I love before and after pics! What awesome work you’ve done. I’m in the process of ripping out much of my lawn and we just got chicks two weeks ago. It’s so encouraging to be reading along with blogs like yours. I really enjoy your posts. Congrats on all your hard work.

  2. Thanks for all the great feedback guys! You work and work, but when you take a step back it can be really overwhelming what you have accomplished.

Sayward, all shall be revealed soon 😉

  3. Love the before and after. We just ripped up our front lawn last fall and now I so wish I’d taken some before photos. Your yard looks beautiful!

  4. Your pictures illustrate nicely how a monoculture lawn can become a bountiful food-producing haven. Your before pictures aren’t nearly as scary as mine of a big yard full of junk and 6-foot weeds.

  5. Wonderful – how great! And you have a lot growing already – I’m jealous. Just starting in on our chilly garden now.
