Sunday I took a nice long drive up north of Seattle, Washington, to participate in a seed exchange at Laura’s Not-So-Urban Hennery. And somehow I managed to convince my friend Denise to come along! Round trip, this was a seven hour drive, plus a diversion to Morton, Washington, to visit a nursery that I will write more about later. The seed exchange was really fun!
September Orchard Tour
Last year I went on the Orchard Tour at One Green World in October. This year I won’t be around for the October 11th tour, so I went on the September tour yesterday instead. I ended up going solo – just my travel mug and some motown music. It was a lovely drive to Molalla, Oregon, and I am glad no one could hear me
Orchard Tour this Weekend
My favorite local nursery, One Green World, will host their first of two orchard tours this weekend! I might bring a travel mug of tea with me, to keep fighting whatever lingering bug I have, but at this point I am just excited to attend. We went last year on their October tour and had a blast! According to their website, the tour this Saturday
Seattle Meetup
Sunday we drove up to Seattle and back for a NW Garden Bloggers meetup. It makes me feel like a huge nerd to say that out loud – partially because I think I sound like a nerd when I say I have a blog, and partially because this demonstrates my obscene obsession with plants and anyone who wants to talk about them with me. So
Tour de Coops Recap
The 2008 Tour de Coops was last Saturday and we estimate somewhere between 125-150 people came through our yard from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. By the end, I felt like I was slurring my words from talking so much that day. I had my “chicken-experience-in-a-nutshell” down to about two minutes. As you may recall, I rebuilt my chicken coop this past Spring. The major
5th Annual Tour de Coops
It’s that time of year again: Portland’s 5th Annual Tour de Coops. I am very excited to be one of the coops on the tour this year! There are about 18 total coops on the tour, stretching to the north and south corners on the east side of Portland. There will even be an organized bike tour of the coops, although I doubt they will
Bee-Keeping Workshop
Last Sunday at the Lents International Farmer’s Market, they had a guest speaker come to talk about bee-keeping in the city. This has been something I have been curious about for some time, but I was never really sure if you could do that in the city. To answer that question, yes you can keep bees in the city. The speaker was a man name
The Joiner Updates
In a flurry of adventurous ambition, I volunteered to help out at a few different events this summer. There was the Foster-Powell (Fo-Po) Garden Tour. Then I signed up for the Lents Farmer’s Market. And finally the 5th Annual Tour de Coops. All of these are events here in Portland. The Fo-Po Garden Tour was a fun, smaller event. A few people came through the
Garden Tour
The Fo-Po Garden Tour was a lot of fun, and it was some serious motivation for us to get things wrapped up and the yard looking good! We met some really nice people and I am always happy to talk about plants with anyone who will listen. There is so much to recap… where to begin? First off, the patio is now complete! The final
