The broccoli seeds have really taken off. This weekend they are getting moved out into a raised garden bed. The chives and leeks are just kind of “eh”. My poor kale, on the other hand, has not raised a single green peep. Tonight I replanted my kale seeds from last year in the newspaper pots, this time adding in 2-3 seeds per pot. Maybe the broccoli will whisper words on encouragement to them overnight.

My six varieties of tomatoes and my eggplant seeds have not poked out yet either, but they were only planted about a week ago. I decided to add a little more water to everyone, so we shall see if that makes a difference.

I admit it: I am starting to feel a little discouraged. A little voice in my head is saying I am doing this all wrong or, more accurately, that I have no idea what I am doing. But I am going to hang in there and hope this seed-starting indoors business works out. It would be SO awesome to be able to grow a wider range of heirlooms and give my plants a head start on the season.

I do miss being able to play records on my four foot record player though, now occupied by about 40 seed pots. If this doesn’t work, I’m not sure how I can explain my weeks of neglect to the Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, and Cat Stevens. I can’t even begin to think about what Bob Dylan would say…
